Moscow Centre Apartment

It is almost impossible to find a place more central in Moscow. This apartment is located in a unique spot, overlooking the Moskva River, the Seven Sisters and the Duma, where the Russian government is housed. Because of the building’s round shape, the apartment is literally surrounded by the city. The view from the extremely large terrace, especially from a Moscow native’s opinion, is breathtaking.

The family that lives here now wanted to create a comfortable home out of the three-story apartment, and get full use out of the terrace. Moreover, the house had to be able to receive large groups of people during social occasions.

Absolutehighlight ofthe house is the larger-than-life legin the hall. This high-heeled leg stands ata total of 6.5 metreshigh, and thespeciallymadeshaftjuts up throughtwofloors.A statementthat sets thetone for the restof the interior. The firstfloor houses the living room, kitchen, dining room, bar andTV corner. The differentareas areconnectedto each other in a subtle way. This allows thefamilytopursue their own activities and still beclose together.A house that offersprivacyand is alsohighlyfunctional.Cosy withtwopeople, but also fun witha large group ofguests.

Bedrooms are located on the second floor. The master bedroom boasts its own closet, a separate shoe cupboard, a fireplace and an adjoining bathroom with its own sauna. A jungle theme was chosen for the children’s rooms. Cheerful and unique murals with elephants, palm trees, monkeys and flamingos complete the fantasy. Even the children’s bathroom features a giraffe motif. The home office can be found on the top floor of the apartment, with a cupboard in glossy black, a gym decorated in warm purple and a guest room and an abundance of natural light.

The whole house has a thoughtful layout with optimised logistics. A challenging puzzle, especially given the round shape of the building, the columns in the halls and the shape of the domed roof. Everything is based on what provides the best use of space. The staircase is surprisingly geometric in its shape. Wooden floors throughout in a herringbone pattern ensure a warm and well-fitting base. The terrace, with its organic shapes and natural materials, counterbalances the tighter lines in the house. The plasterwork on the walls and ceilings of the top floor mimics the shape of the domed roof, and lets the natural light invade the rooms in a subtle way.
