This spacious country house with large garden is tucked away in the suburbs of Moscow. It is constructed out of a number of linked blocks, and has many windows. The wooden roof at the front of the blocks creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The house’s white walls, spacious garden with pool and terraces give the house a Mediterranean character.
The starting point for the new house design was to give the living, sleeping and relaxing sections their own block. Other key requirements were to ensure private bedrooms and bathrooms for the children, and plenty guestrooms. Additionally, the owner wanted a number of pieces from their extensive art collection to be given a prominent place in the country house. To satisfy all these desires, a thorough renovation followed, in which the block elements were extended and increased.
The house’s exquisite front entry manages to immediately embrace those entering. Four life-size paintings are displayed wonderfully in the long corridor, where natural daylight enters via a long, triangular skylight on the roof. The entry way spills out into the various blocks for living and sleeping, and to the special area for sports and swimming. The living block has a sitting room with a high ceiling, and windows that extend to the floor and wrap around a railing to the library. A sofa in a horseshoe shape, two fireplaces and a bar ensure that this is the very epicentre of the house. The sitting room connects the open kitchen, dining room, home office, playroom and the salon.
The luxurious interior with pool and jacuzzi has an adjacent fitness centre and an extensive sauna area. The sauna walls are covered with old, weathered barn wood, which has been varnished to make the beautiful patterns and colours visible. Various sliding glass doors connect the indoor and outdoor spaces. During nice weather it’s possible to walk directly out onto the terrace, the outdoor pool and the rest of the garden. The garden has several terraces, seating areas and intimate corners, each with its own character. A large outdoor fireplace also makes for a pleasant evening.
Even the interior of the garage that houses the family’s motorcycles and bicycles has been well thought out. The space is entirely white, and the floor is covered with stainless steel plates. Along the wall, a hand-made white metal cupboard houses all the motorcycle clothing, helmets, boots and other equipment.
